Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 RECALL

UPDATE UPDATE----Read below for full story.

If you've been following my blog and wonder what is the fix for this annoying problem with the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Radio Navigation problems I have some details.

It seems the model has a switch in the rear view mirror that is calling 911 upon shutting the car off. The long term fix is to replace the part without the switch...I'm thinking that it will not fix it still.

For the short term fix, if any of you are suffering here it is. When the issue arises you just press down at the same time the volume dial and the mute dial. The two dials at the same time. Hold until it reboots. It's a dealer refresh. TADA it will fix it. Mine is having the problem each time the car stops now.  Anyhow hope this helps someone out because it's driving me mad. I want this truck GONE!

FULL STORY

My family has owned more Jeep Grand Cherokees than you can imagine. We've had SRT8s, limited, diesel, fully loaded, etc. My hubby loves to always have the latest model!

Most recently we traded in the HORRIBLE Dodge Journey, I hated it and it was fully loaded but still just awful and really poor gas mileage.  Well we traded it in for another 2014 JEEP GC. We only had positive experiences so here we go again.

Well not this time. Our brand new fully loaded JGC 2014 has been a real lemon!  From onset, the truck upon shutting down will keep running electronics (the dash, radio, uconnect, gps, etc).

We have taken it to be serviced at 3 dealers in Canada (Ontario) over the last few months. They perform software updates, replaced the battery (because it died as it can't stop running) and troubleshooting. OH the battery was replaced two times within a few weeks. They said the first was defective. Really, brand new and defective. Honestly JEEP!!!

TOTAL INCONVENIENCE!! Most recently over the holidays, we took it back again because it just won't stop running. They had it for 2 weeks and assured us it was fine. The dealer provided us with a rental truck very basic, but we are paying to drive this JGC, so I really want this problem fixed! So we got the truck back and drove it a few days. All of a sudden I noticed the dash would stay on for a long period when I turned the vehicle off. I knew it was a a matter of time.

After a few times of turning the truck on/off, there it goes again. All electronics keep running expect the engine of coarse. Took it back to the dealer got a basic pick up this time (blah) and waiting for next steps.

Honestly at this point I just want them to take it and I will go get a Suburu or Kia. I am sick and tired of my JGC!!!!

UPDATE: I contacted head office and opened a case. SO their tech' team is saying the problem is the Rear View Mirror. In the US models it has a call 911 option. Although the Canadian version doesn't come with this feature, the component is still alive. So for some odd reason they feel the car upon shut down every so often the truck dials 911 and the electronics won't shut off.

They don't know why this happens, but they feel this is the problem and a new mirror without this 911 feature will cure my issue!  I am waiting for the part and for my truck in the meantime.

I would like to also state that supposedly there is a method to reset the radio so that if it does happen I can manually override and turn off the radio/dash etc.  They will be showing me the how to and I will share soon!

I would love to hear if anyone else has had this problem please!!!

Kitchen Aid Fridge Problems

We recently moved into our home. A resale home, over 40 years old. With that meant a lot of renovations. We did a lot of work to the home but the kitchen remodel was not in our budget.

However we did budget for brand new appliances. We had KitchenAid for over 10 years. Top of the line products and quality built. We sold our last house with appliances included.

When it came time to buy new appliances of coarse we turned to KitchenAid. Well like everything else in the world. A decade later, their product is not as solid and built with quality.

Our fridge is stainless steel. Double doors with freezer at the bottom. There is a water filter device on the left side inside of the fridge. This was not my first choice fridge but the model was big and I wanted room.

In the showroom the fridge looked and operated well.  We live in a remote area. They delivered our appliances. Right away we noticed the large deli tray would stick. Also the left hand door would swing closed while the right remained open.

Called for service (we got the 5 year warranty). Service man replaced the tray. For the door they leveled the fridge and it seemed to help out.

Within the year the tray sticks only on a few occasions while the left hand door never stays open unless held open. This is frustrating because you can't put anything in or take anything out including water from the filter without being hit on the back/side by the big door.

It's just a big nuissance.  Called the head office to complain on many occasions, with many reps. Called the service man again to check it out.

What did they say?!

They told us the fridge operates normally. The left door should not stay open and will not. That's just how it is and we should stop complaining. Not exactly in these words :)

Basically they told us to suck it up. I mentioned the fridge operated well in the showroom. The doors stayed open. They said that technical support said it's normal for the left door to swing shut. Kinda makes no sense since the water filter is in the fridge on the left side. You never want to go in there because the door hits you on the backside.

Hmmm probably a good side to hide junk food in. OK getting off topic now.

So that's where we stand. Bought the pricey appliances, the extended service and of coarse the KitchenAid people are unresponsive and do not resolve our problem. Instead they tell us it's normal behaviour.

Can anyone else offer any feedback or similar situations with KitchenAid?

What's your best FIDO story?

Fido is a Canadian cellular phone company. I won't even dive deep into that debate but I really dislike companies that hold customers at mercy. Monopolies are just horrible. You will be hearing that a lot. I use the word horrible a lot so I apologize in advance.

I would like to share my horror story with FIDO. I have been with this company for almost a decade. Why? Because I landed an amazingly cheap plan under $20 CND, very basic but I only needed it for emergency. I had purchased my own smart phone and didn't even receive a phone from them. I think I have the original one from when I signed up. I had upgraded in the last year to an unlimited data plan for $60 a month with them. I am not a contract.

Their service is not great, my phone can't even make calls when I'm up North. The other major providers like Bell, Rogers do much better but they don't have comparable monthly plans.

OK so today is Black Friday. The Samsung Galaxy 4s is being offered for $0 with a 2yr. plan from most providers. Their monthly plans are a bit higher but their reception is much better. I want this phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy now and I am happy with it so I would like the upgrade.

Well Fido is still offering the same phone for $275, they point out it was $375 yesterday.

ME THINKING OUT LOUD So you are telling me you rip off customers?! If you ordered yesterday you would have paid more. Well, why not give them the promo' price if you know it's wrong?! I really dislike crooked business.

OK let me tell you a bit about the annoying customer service rep' - customer relations to be exact. It was a lady. She spoke very fast, wouldn't let me talk or ask questions. She had a hard accent which made it hard for me to understand her. She was rude and without even seeing her I gathered she felt superior.

So here is the deal she gave me. Because I am a loyal customer and they want to scam me.

ME THINKING OUT LOUD AGAIN  That's what it's all about in my opinion. A contract a way is to ensure they get business but they can not provide good service.

What did they come up with?
1. Sign up for 2 years. Get the phone for $0 but you have to get a max plan which is $85 but we'll give it to you for $65plustaxes.
2. Sign up for 2 years. Get the phone for $170 and sign up for a smart plan which is what I have now so $60plus taxes each month.

THE HOOK? You can't move to a lower level plan during the 2yr period without charges. And, you can't cancel your contract without charges.

ME THINKING OUT LOUD (doing that a lot in this post). I can buy a smart phone unlocked for $200-500, then use any provider and not worry about locking in a contract. I hate to feel jailed!

I have decided to wait it out and see what the new year brings. There are talks here in CANADA that the CRTC will be changing rules for wireless phone carriers to protect customers. And if it's not sweeter well maybe something better will come out and I can buy a used Samsung Galaxy S4 for a sweet deal.

Thanks for letting me vent and please share your views if you need to let some steam off too.
